Appleby Golf Club is set on Brackenber
Moor in the beautiful Cumbrian countryside against a backdrop of
stunning
panoramic views of the North Pennines and the Lakeland fells.
The course benefits from natural free drainage offering all year
round playability. The greens are recognised by many as the best
in the North of England The club enjoys a golfing history dating back to 1894. In 1903
the club moved to its present location on Brackenber Moor, two
miles from the picturesque market town of Appleby. The former
Open Champion Wille Fernie of Troon laid out the new course using
the natural contours of the moor with short heathery rough and
bracken to provide a challenging and delightful course described
as 'the Sunningdale of the North'.
His creation is undeniably testing as the 5,889 yard par 68
contains no par 5's but long challening par 4's. Nobody comes
to Appleby Golf Course and finds it easy but everybody comes
back to play it again.
Appleby Golf Club offers excellent facilities including a refurbished
clubhouse offering home cooked food, a golf shop where the professional
is always available for tuition and advice.
